Europe Day held on 9 May every year celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historical ‘Schuman declaration’. At a speech in Paris in 1950, Robert Schuman, the then French foreign minister, set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between European nations unthinkable.
This year, Europe Day is particularly special for Lithuania, as on 1 May we celebrated 15 years of joining the European Union. In Kaunas, we’ll be celebrating Europe Day with an event at the Nepriklausomybės square near Soboras. Together with representatives of Europe Direct, the Kaunas Municipal Vincas Kudirka Public Library will invite everyone to find out more about our union, engage in various activities and listen to live music. The event starts at 4 pm.

We’ve scheduled five tours in French (May 9, 2 pm), Spanish (May 9, 4:30 pm), Polish (May 10, 12 pm), German (May 10, 12 pm) and Italian (May 10, 2 pm – in collaboration with Litintour – Lituania Viaggi).
