On 11 March 2020, we will mark the 30th Anniversary of Restoration of the Independence as one of the most important events in Lithuania’s history. The Act on the Re-establishment of the State of Lithuania, adopted by the Supreme Council–Reconstituent Seimas on 11 March 1990, played a decisive role in the liberation case of Lithuania, thus ending the half a century long annexation of our state.

The Visitor Centre of the Seimas, open to the public and located next to the Parliament buildings at the very heart of the capital (Gedimino pr. 60), invites you to visit it and join in the celebration. From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on 11 March 2020, the Visitor Centre will host meetings with signatories to the Act of Independence and historians as well as performances by art groups, documentary screenings and entertaining quizzes.

Please find the programme for the open hours at the Visitor Centre of the Seimas on 11 March 2020.

Everyone is welcome to celebrate together the 30th Anniversary of Restoration of the Independence at the events held in the Seimas and other Lithuanian venues to mark this beautiful anniversary of the Republic of Lithuania. The celebration will bring together both direct participants of the national revival and the generation born and raised in a free country.

The events dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of Restoration of the Independence hosted by the Visitor Centre of the Seimas will be open to the public throughout the entire month of March. A number of surprises are planned for the visitors. They will have an opportunity to take a picture at a special photo booth and receive a commemorative photo with the symbols of the 11th of March. They will also have a chance to meet Members of the Seimas by using an interactive magnetic board reflecting the Plenary Chamber of the Seimas. Visitors will also have an opportunity to view the official gifts received by the leadership of the Seimas from foreign parliaments and the sport awards won by Members of the Seimas and staff of the Office of the Seimas.

The Visitor Centre, which opened its doors last autumn, is an excellent educational space for families, children, individual visitors, communities, pupils, and foreign guests.

The Visitor Centre offers various activities, such as educational classes or free guided tours of the Seimas, including an opportunity to observe live plenary sittings and visit the historical halls of the Seimas and a chance to meet with Members of the Seimas, signatories to the Act of Independence, and defenders of the Parliament.

The following exhibitions will also be available at the Visitor Centre:

  • ïPhotography exhibition titled Seven Tenures in the Seimas: Signatories Kęstutis Glaveckas and Emanuelis Zingeris dedicated to the signatories to the Act of Independence of Lithuania with the longest record of seven out of eight possible parliamentary terms in office over the thirty years of Lithuania’s independence.
