Due to the special circumstances this year, many people are planning to stay and spend their holidays in Lithuania, and Palanga is undoubtedly one of the country’s most popular attractions. When you visit Palanga, you will definitely enjoy the sun, the sea, the beach, the sand, and the famous pier. However, in order to make your holiday more interesting, We Love Lithuania suggests five more places you can visit, which will be especially fun if you are going on holiday with children.

The Children’s Park

We all know that children get bored quickly on the beach: they need action and movement. That’s why the Children’s Park, situated right by the sea and surrounded by pine trees, is a real oasis of joy for children, and a lifeline for parents. There is a huge playground in the park, with many swings, roundabouts, and even a seven-metre-high climbing frame. The playground is all built on sand, so children can play happily barefoot. Benches and free Wi-Fi are provided for parents, and walking and cycling trails lead to the park. The playground in the Children’s Park is open daily from 10am to 9pm, and entry is free.

The Lithuanian Fairy Tale Park

The Lithuanian Fairy Tale Park, in a picturesque setting next to Birutė Park, is a huge, open-air educational space that immerses children and their parents in the world of Lithuanian folklore. There are sculptures illustrating motifs from Lithuanian folk tales, and young visitors can ‘try them out’, by touching, climbing, and turning separate parts, and playing in other ways, and hear a fairy tale at the press of a button!

Palanga Resort Museum

We all know about the Villa Anapilis. This prettily decorated wooden summer house, built in 1898 for Sofija Tiškevičienė, became a symbol of the resort almost as soon as it appeared. Initially famous for its mysteriousness and for the sounds of the wind organ, the villa became a summer refuge for Lithuanian artists, scientists, politicians, and even presidents, between the wars. After Lithuania regained its independence, the Villa Anapilis became the most famous seaside music club, until the Palanga Resort Museum finally opened in it in 2016. It is beautiful and meaningful that you can visit an exhibition about the history of Palanga, the growth of the resort, and its cultural and economic life in different periods, in this famous villa, which is inextricably linked with the history of the town. You can learn about famous people who have lived and worked in Palanga. Visitors to the museum are greeted by Sofia Tiškevičienė’s legendary hall of mirrors, the impressive sounds of the wind organ, and a unique journey through time.

The Church Tower

Not everyone knows that the tower of the Neogothic Church of the Assumption, which was built more than a hundred years ago, is also somewhere you can go to observe the whole city! It has an observation platform that is open to anyone who wants to admire the beautiful view! And on the way up the tower, even non-believers should stop for a moment to admire the church’s impressive interior.

The observation platform in the Palanga church tower is open to visitors every day from 9am to 5.30pm, and on Sundays from 1.30pm to 5.30pm. Entry is free.

Palanga Swimming Pool

The swimming pool in Palanga opened last year. As well as having a pool for exercising and learning to swim, there is also a Wellness Centre for relaxation and recharging. It’s just what we want when we’re resting! The Wellness Centre includes a sauna, a Himalayan salt bath, recreational pools for children and adults, a tiny pool for babies, jacuzzis, massage rooms, and a gym. So, if you’re tired of going to the beach, or if it’s raining, Palanga swimming pool can be a great day out for all the family.
