A little bit of exotica in Lithuania – the flower festival in Pakruojis Manor is surrounded by
ten-metre tall palm trees

Pakruojis Manor invites visitors to admire flowers, their arrangements and displays every
day of the summer at the "Midsummer Night’s Dream 2020" flower festival, which is being
held for a second year. This year, visitors will be amazed by several hundred species of
flowers, millions of blossoms, and their breaths will be blown away as a part of the tropics are
brought to the manor in the form of real palm trees that rustle in the wind.
As of now, you can experience not only the pleasures of 19th century life in the manor, enjoy the
floral arrangements of this year’s flower festival from almost two million flowers, but also feel as if
you are in a real exotic resort, where palm trees rustle in the Lithuanian sky. According to
Hofmarshal Vadim Ovčinkas of Pakruojis Manor, this year for those who cannot travel to exotic
lands, we have brought exotica to the manor, so that it will be possible to enjoy their shade under
the Lithuanian sky.

“Washingtonia filifera/Robusta” and “Arecastrum romanzoffianium“ – the Latin names of palms,
which do not fear the Lithuanian cold, can endure temperatures as low as -20 degrees, so it is
planned that these palms will not only be a decoration at the festival, but will stay at the mansion for
a longer period of time.
As is historically known, the rulers of the manor, von der Ropp, have always been lovers of the
exotics and it was even a matter of prestige to have exotic plants in the manor – so a banana tree
appeared in the all year round heated greenhouse. The palm trees therefore, are historically suitable.
The "Midsummer Night’s Dream 2020" Flower Festival takes place every day at Pakruojis Manor,
and at weekends, visitors are treated to exclusive theatre performances inspired by William
Shakespeare. The flower festival is open to visitors until the first frosts of Autumn.
Pakruojis Manor is not only the largest surviving manor in Lithuania, but also one of the 18 most
attractive cultural tourism sites in Europe and the “Tourism Object of the Year 2019” in Lithuania,
where life at the end of the 19 th and beginning of 20 th century manor life is being brought back to
life.
